Daisy Scouts -- March 2011

Rachel Claire belongs to a great Girl Scout Troop, whose members are all kids who are adopted from China (mostly, some from Vietnam). It is a great way for them to get to know each other in a group since most of them go to different schools. There are lots of girls in the troop which is really nice. Rachel Claire is a Daisy scout, which is the youngest group...there are also Brownies, Juniors and Cadettes too.

We sold some Girl Scout cookies with our friends Emma and Fiona at a Marsh in the 'hood. It was not bad really. The girls worked together, each one had a job. People were quite nice and I think we probably sold about 100 boxes of cookies. The moms got to chat and the kids had fun.
Another Girl Scout meeting had each girl putting together a care package for her orphanage. They also learned about maps and where each one had lived as a baby. It was interesting to see that some girls came from the same orphanage but didn't know it...and how close together some of them lived. They also made Happy Spring cards to send to another Girl Scout troop in Texas and had a tea party!

We had already decided to send Girl Scout cookies to Rachel Claire's orphanage because my dad and another Friend (Connie Rufenbarger) had purchased some Girl Scout cookies but asked that we donate them to someone in need...and Rachel Claire's orphanage seemed to be the perfect place. I tried to figure out how many kids were there to be sure there would be enough cookies for all. What I heard from people who had been there that there are around 90 kids there. I thought 15 boxes of Girl Scout cookies (all flavors) would be good. We finally got the box packed up and shipped the other day...for $66! Oy! More than the cookies cost. But hopefully they will enjoy them. We also wrote a note from Rachel Claire telling them a little about herself and sending a picture of us. Maybe we'll hear back from them someday...or we can remind them about it when we go to visit in a few years.
