Jake: R.I.P.

Well I had to put my faithful feline friend to sleep this afternoon....it was an agonizing decision and one I wondered about until the moment he got the sedative. But when he did, he looked so relaxed and peaceful, something he hasn't looked like in a long time. Even in this photo, when he was 15 (he was 17+ today), he was already looking sickly. Jake has been with me for so long, ever since Brad & I were first married and we got Jake and Sophie on a bit of a lark (we barely had the money to get them!). We didn't realize that they had extra toes until we got them home. And when we first got them, they promptly hid inside the kitchen cabinets and we thought we had lost them! We were looking everywhere - including in the refrigerator. Finally we thought to look in the cabinets, they were sitting together happy as clams, oblivious to our concern...apparently they had gotten in through a hole under the cabinets. Jake was always the healthy one to Sophie's sickliness. Not to mention Jake's lack of smarts compared to Sophie. Sophie went to kitty heaven in 2001 and Jake has finally joined her (and Spike in neighboring dog heaven). He has been a great companion to me for many years....I already miss him. I hope he is feeling happy and romping now.

It has been a hard day and hopefully tomorrow won't be too hard - my last real day at work (I have to go back next week for a little computer clean up). One of the things I like about my blog is that I can share things like this that are painful to me that I would rather not talk about but that people want to know....so thanks to everyone for all of your support and understanding that its not personal if I haven't shared some of these feelings directly with you.

Stay cool!!

Jill! I'm so sorry to hear this. Hugs to you. Losing our animal babies is terribly painful. Carla

Hi Jill - Didn't know Jake was so ill. You know we understand how important the "furry people" are to us. Commiserations from Don, Suzanne, Shell and Stella. - Don
