Near the end of the school year, the kids in Mrs. Guess' class planted a sunflower seed in a small plastic cup. Mrs. Guess sent them home with the kids and we put ours on the front porch. The poor sunflower nearly got decapitated one time when it got knocked off the porch, but it rallied and we eventually planted it in the garden. Well, here it is now -- wow! Its probably over 6 feet tall (although sadly there is some pesky crabgrass that is almost as tall). It was a great project!
If you look closely behind the zinnias you will see our neighborhood bunny who has taken up residence in our garden. It almost makes me feel better about not pulling the millions of weeds in there...but I'm thinking I could (I hope) at least pull the 6 foot crabgrass (oy the roots on those things!).
